COMMERCIAL activities were yesterday paralysed as traders at the Bodija food market in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital shut down the market for hours in protest over the alleged killing of 25 traders by Boko Haram member in Maiduguri .
Following the protest, over 150 shops were put under lock and key with traders sighted in groups discussing the untimely death of some of their co-traders .Mostly affected areas of the market were the beans,groundnut,meat ,rice red oil section as well as the unit housing the Hausa/Fulani dry fish sellers.
Sources at the market said the murdered traders reportedly headed for Maiduguri to buy beans and other food items in preparation for the coming ramadan fasting .According to the source the 25 traders from the Bodija market allegedly killed by the Boko Haram comprised of 9 bean sellers who were Yoruba and 16 smoked fish sellers who were Hausa.
CEOAFRICA news desks learnt that the news of the death of the 25 traders was passed to the Bodija market community by some of the traders that narrowly escaped from the hands of the Boko Haram members on their arrival back at Ibadan.Sources stressed that most of the beans sellers allegedly killed by the Boko Haram members were said to be apprentice with few days to regain their freedom from their masters.
