She Cranes has been eliminated from the Netball World Cup after losing to Wales in a classification clash.

The Ugandan side settled for eighth position at the Netball World Cup after going down 64-41 to Wales yesterday.

The Ugandan side had lost to Wales in the preliminary rounds 47-49 and another close contest was expected yesterday.

This time, though, She Cranes struggled for endurance. Playing so many games in a short time seemed to have taken a toll on them.

Both teams looked balanced in the earlier exchanges but Wales clinched the first quarter 15-11 with Ugandan star shooter Peace Proscovia notching nine goals in nine attempts.

Midway through the second quarter, changes were made to the Ugandan team with Stella Oyella (GK) and Jesca Achan (WD) checking in.

The conversion rate from Wales, however, showed no change . The second quarter belonged to Wales, finishing 17-9, the scores, 33-20 going into the half. The She Cranes came out of the half firing in the third quarter, going on a quick five- goal run in the opening two-and-a half minutes.

The run was short-lived, however, when Wales made four quick unanswered goals.

Uganda's consistency shortened Wales' lead to eight with two minutes left in the third. Despite Uganda taking the quarter win 15-11, Wales, now ranked seventh in the world, remained in the lead 44-35.

At the start of the final quarter, both teams made changes to their line-up. Wales brought on Stephanie Williams and Uganda brought Rachael Nanyonga back into the game.

Both teams put everything on the line, leaping for the loose balls and making their shots count.

With five minutes to go, Oyella, picked up an injury and it killed Uganda's momentum as Wales outscored the She Cranes 20-6 in the final quarter.

Proscovia finished with 31 goals, Oyella added six and Nanyonga, labouring with a painful ankle, got four in the losing effort.

The She Cranes are expected back home today (1pm) and should get a decent reception for their brave show in Sydney where hosts Australia edged New Zealand 58-55 to win their third straight World Cup.
