Elder statesman and Afenifere chieftain,Chief Ayo Adebanjo on Monday accused President  Muhammadu Buhari of being selective in his ongoing probe against corruption.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Daily Independent,  Adebanjo who said he has no problem with the efforts of the new administration to rid the country of corrupt elements added that by singling out the administration of former president  Goodluck Jonathan for probe, President Buhari is trying to cover his misdeeds as military head of states as well as that of other past military rulers.

He said it is worrisome why Buhari can talk of probing  Jonathan’s administration alone for allegedly mismanaging the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) while turning a blind eye to former president Olusegun  Obasanjo who oversaw the Ministry of Petroleum for eight years between 1999 to 2007.

“Buhari is emphasizing that he wants to rid the nation of corruption, no problem about that at all. There is no step that he has taken against fighting corruption that I disagree with except being selective”.

“He should be careful because people are watching that being a military man; he is trying to cover all the military heads of state including himself.  I have refrained from saying that but the way it is now going about it made me say this. How can he say he will probe Jonathan alone’?”

“Buhari came into office with a lot of goodwill. I will not like him to spoil that goodwill by giving the impression that he is covering up his colleagues. There were lot of suspicions about Babangida, Abdulsalami and Obasanjo. And Buhari is now saying he will put all that behind him and will only probe the civilian administration who inherited the mess they left behind”.

“You are eager about probing Jonathan because he allegedly mismanaged NNPC but Obasanjo who held the ministry of Petroleum for eight years is not to be probed. That to me is ridiculous” he said.
