Spain ventures to strengthen bilateral relations with Nigeria by installing its warship in Nigeria.

The Nigeria Navy Ship ANDONI received the vessel MV RAYO on its arrival at mid-stream yesterday and escorted it to berth at the Naval Base Apapa. The ship is scheduled to be in Nigeria from June 30 to    July 3.

The Ship Company will conduct training onboard for personnel of the Nigerian Navy on damage control. The Spanish Navy and its host are expected to hold a joint press briefing as well as sporting activities.

According the announcement made at a news conference in Abuja by Mr. Gonzalo de Benito, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Spain, the Spanish govt on Wednesday assured Nigeria and ECOWAS of its commitment to supporting the economic growth of the sub-region.

The Spanish government’s resolution to boost the West African economy, would provide more jobs in the region and reduce the threat of illegal immigration to Spain, Benito stated while on a working visit to four West African countries, which includes Nigeria, Mali, Senegal and Cape Verde.

“We are looking for new markets in sharing experiences and there will be more illegal immigration if we do not improve the West African economy.” “We have the capacity to improve the conditions in West Africans,” he said.
