The Supreme Court has fixed November 11to hear the appeal filed by Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, against the ruling of  a Court of Appeal in favour of Celestine Omehia, the standard bearer for APGA in Rivers State.

The Court of Appeal had in their ruling given Celestine Omehia, the right to challenge a judgment of the Federal High Court which held that Amaechi’s tenure ended on May 29, 2011.

Amaechi had, through his counsel, Lateef Fagbemi, opposed the application, arguing that Omehia was neither a necessary nor a desirable party.

But Omehia argued that he was a party in the Supreme Court judgment which the high court interpreted and that he was adversely affected by the Supreme Court judgment.

He also said that he wanted to seek election as governor of River State under the APGA flag and that for these two reasons he deserved to be given the chance to challenge the judgment of the high court which he described as incorrect.

CEOAFRICA news desk gathered that the apex court had fixed the date to allow all the parties in the suit to put in their papers and appear before it while the panel of five justices headed by Justice Walter Onoghen who granted the adjournment reluctantly, noted that the matter was a political issue which ought to be decided on time.
