Agreement has been reached between the Osun State Government and Ile-Ife kingmakers on the ruling house to produce the next Ooni.

This came up after a meeting at the state government house in Osogbo where the Ife Kingmakers and the State Government agreed on the Giesi Ruling House following the rotational method of 1979 and 1980 Ife Chieftaincy Declaration.

The stool however became vacant after the death of Oba Okunade Sijuwade Olubuse, on July 28th at a London hospital. This according to the outcome of the meeting will triggered the state government to formerly write Giesi Ruling House to present suitable candidates, out of which one would be selected.

A source at the meeting attended by Ife kingmakers at the Osun Government House in Osogbo, told our correspondent that the Giesi Ruling House was favoured by the 1979 and 1980 Ife Chieftaincy Declaration which brought about rotation among the four ruling houses.

The spokesperson of Giesi Ruling House, Prince Adelowo Adekunle Ogunleye, told our correspondent that screening of interested princes was on-going and that some names would be forwarded to the kingmakers as soon as possible for final screening. He said the Giesi Ruling House had not disqualified any applicant from the eight royal families under it.

“We have not disqualified any applicant from vying for the throne of Ooni of Ife, because every prince from Giesi Ruling House is eligible. We have received applications from interested princes and we are already screening them.

There is no doubt that it is our turn to produce Ooni and we shall produce the best candidate for the stool,” he said.
