THE Kano State Task Force on Fake and Counterfeit Drugs has secured the conviction of over 100 persons it prosecuted this year for selling and circulating fake and adulterated drugs in the state.

This was said by the Chairman of the Task Force, Alhaji Ghali Sule, in Kano that the peddlers were convicted by magistrate courts in the state, adding that most of them were still serving their various prison terms.

He said the committee had also confiscated and destroyed fake and adulterated drugs worth over N3 billion since its establishment in 2012.

According to our source, Sule said the task force was able to raid about 10 warehouses used to store fake and adulterated drugs in the state.

CEOAFRICA gathered that Kano State was a dumping ground for fake and adulterated drugs but the establishment of the task force, has curtailed the ugly trend to the barest minimum.

The chairman also disclosed that the latest raid on Wednesday on three warehouses at Kofar Ruwa in the metropolis, had led to the recovery of four vehicles, including two trailers loaded with tramol, valium, codeine syrup, and other prohibited drugs.

"Even recently, we closed down three illegal drugs manufacturing outlets at Dakata in Nasarawa Local Government, and in Jaba and Sabon Gari areas of Fagge Local Government Area,’’ he said.
