UCH COMMENCES HEART SURGERY

CEOAFRICA news desk gathered that University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan has commenced heart surgery.

The Surgery operation commenced in UCH yesterday (Tuesday) with the first among the three slated for the commencement performed on a 19-year old boy which lasted for three hours.

The surgery was carried out in collaboration with a team of heart surgeons from the United States of America headed by Paul Davids, from Delaware, who disclosed that they had replaced the valves in the boy’s heart and that UCH is now well-equipped to carry out heart surgeries.

The Chief Medical Director of UCH, Tope Alonge stated that the project would be run in collaboration with the Cardiovascular Institute, where Mr. Davids works.

Head of the Department o Paediatrics, Prof. Samuel Omokhodion, who stated that heart prolems are common among children and usually occur from birth, also assured that the cost of the operations in Nigeria would not be different from what is obtainable in other developing countries of the world.
