The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Saturday conduct 22 court-ordered rerun elections across eight states of the federation.
These will be among the first set of the 80 court-ordered elections that the commission is scheduled to conduct from January to March.
In a statement by the commission wednesday, it gave a breakdown of these elections to include four senatorial elections, three federal constituency elections, and 15 state constituency elections.
“With preparations in top gear to ensure a hitch-free mini general election, INEC will conduct senatorial, federal constituency and state constituency elections across eight states, namely: Benue, Kaduna, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, Taraba and Imo,” INEC said.
According to the statement, senatorial elections would be conducted in Benue South, Imo North, Kogi Central, and Kogi East Senatorial Districts.

The constituencies are Imo - Isiala Mbano, Oru East, and Owerri West; Kaduna - Lere West; Kogi - Ofu Sc, Ankpa 1, Idah, Dekina 1 and Dekina II (Okura); Niger – Suleja; and Plateau - Langtang South, Pankshin South and Pankshin NorthTaraba-Ardo Kola and Mbamga.
Meanwhile, following the killing of three persons in Ogboju, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State on Tuesday ahead of Saturday’s senatorial rerun poll in the area, the Director-General of the Senator David Mark campaign organisation, Mr. Abba Moro, has called on security agencies in the state to stem further killings in the area.
Moro, who spoke yesterday in Otukpo, claimed that the actions and speeches of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the state government ahead of the poll were fuelling crisis and threatening peace in the zone.
He urged security agencies to be alive to their responsibilities by averting further bloodshed in the area, stressing: “As institutions sustained by the commonwealth of Nigerians, we demand no less.”
Continuing, Moro said: “Elections are won through the ballot and not through bullets, so any further attempt to unleash thugs on the people of Benue South, before and during the election will be vehemently resisted by the people.
“The people will also resist any attempt to compromise the process in favour of the ruling party.
“It is also our hope that security agencies will not allow themselves to be compromised, we therefore urge them to be alive to their responsibilities or be prepared to take responsibility for any harm that befall voters during the poll.
“On our part as a political family in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) we will continue to be law abiding and not do anything that will threaten the peace of the area.”
