Super Eagles' Chisom Chikatara
Chisom Chikatara on Wednesday scored his first goal of the season in the Nigeria Premier League, as Abia Warriors defeated El-Kanemi Warriors 2-1 in a match day two fixture.
Chikatara, who hit the headlines at the just-concluded fourth African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda, after finishing with four goals, put the homers ahead in the early minutes of the game.
He was before the commencement of the season, reported to have secured a three-year deal with a Moroccan club, Wydad Casablanca, while he fired blank in the season’s opener last Sunday, where his team drew 1-1 with Ikorodu United in Lagos.
Warriors’ Michael Olaha ensured the Umuahia-based side nicked home its first victory of the season, as he got the winner in the dying minutes, after Mustapha Ibrahim, had scored an equaliser for the visitors.
Abia Warriors finished the game with 10 men as Henry Ochuba got a second booking in the match and was sent off.
Meanwhile, Kelvin Itoya was the match winner for Warri Wolves which recorded a 1-0 win over visiting Kano Pillars.
Itoya’s goal came off a rebound during added time, as goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye’s brilliant form was good enough to deny the four-time Nigeria League champions a point in Warri.
At the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Rangers which started the season with a 1-2 loss in Kano, came from behind before their teeming fans to hammer Plateau United 3-1.
Kim John put the visitors ahead in the eighth minute and maintained the lead till half time.
The Flying Antelopes came back stronger in the second half to level up through Togaba Komlan, while Nnamdi Anyasodo and Chisom Egbuchulum were on song to ensure the first victory of the season for their team.
