In a move to ensure true peace in PDP, The NWC of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has assured his members on Thursday that it had no plan to sanction members of the Abubakar Baraje faction, which was declared illegal by the Federal High Court, Abuja last week.

The party also appointed a committee headed by Vice President Namadi Sambo to lead its campaign in Anambra State.

The spokesperson of the party, Olisa Metuh, who disclosed this while briefing journalists in Abuja, also dispelled claims that the party had filed a petition against the members of the faction.

A former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, joined by seven governors, floated the faction, otherwise known as New PDP, on August 31.

The governors are Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Musa Kwankawso (Kano), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Chubuike Amaechi (Rivers) and Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara).

Some senators and members of the House of Representatives identified with the faction and incurred the wrath of the National Chairman of the PDP, Bamanga Tukur, who threatened to declare their seats vacant.

Mr. Metuh, who apparently wanted to debunk the speculations that the seven-member National Disciplinary Committee of the PDP led by Umaru Dikko, which was inaugurated earlier on Thursday, might go after the Baraje faction members, said  no disciplinary measure was being contemplated against it in the spirit of true reconciliation.

He said that the party leadership had held meetings with the splinter group, aimed at looking at their grievances and reconciling with them.

The PDP spokesperson said that the party was being considerate because of the contributions members of the faction had made to the party`s development in the past.

He denied reports that the party filed a suit in court against Mr. Amaechi.

Also on Thursday, the party constituted a campaign committee headed by Mr. Sambo to lead its campaign for the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State.

Other members of Anambra Election Campaign Committee are Mr. Tukur; Chairman, PDP Board of Trustee Chairman, Tony Anenih; Senate President, David Mark; and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal.

A former Vice President, Alex Ekwueme; Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu; Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha; and Gov. Jonah Jang of Plateau State are also members of the committee.

The committee was constituted a day after Tony Nwoye, who won the August 25primary election, was restored by the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as the duly nominated candidate of the party for the election.

Mr. Metuh assured that the PDP would win the Anambra governorship election even as he maintained that the party would not ally with any party in the contest.

According to him, the ruling party would give the required support to Mr. Nwoye to win the election.

Stating that the election was crucial to the PDP, Mr. Metuh said as from next Monday, the party would suspend all activities and focus all its attention on the Anambra poll.

He said, “NWC is very mindful of the importance of Anambra election at this critical moment. We want to inform our members that on Monday, all issues pertaining to the party will be dropped.

“We will focus on Anambra election and give all necessary assistance to our candidate to ensure that we win Anambra governorship election.”
