CEOAFRICA.com gathered from Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia that police officials have taken over the building of the Shabelle independent radio station, claiming it belongs to the government.

It was revealed that the radio station is prominent for criticizing government officials, as authorities claimed to have issued five day’s quit notice to the station officials because it is legally occupying the building under an agreement with the previous government.

This was part of measures Somali government embarked upon in trying to reclaim land and buildings belonging to its former institutions.

Meanwhile, media activist says this eviction will expose most of Radio Shabelle journalists to danger since majority of them lives in the premises to protect themselves from danger.

Radio Shabelle reported on its website that police forced their way into the studio and beat journalists, as witnesses claimed that some of the staffs were seen being loaded into trucks.

Officials of the radio station said it is occupying the building following a legal agreement with the previous government.
