From Botswana, CEOAFRICA.com gathered that government is set to vaccinate children under the age of 5 years against diseases including measles.

Speaking at a press conference held in Gaborone, Botswana’s capital, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Shenaaz El-Halabi explained that the campaign will take place at all health facilities and other designated points across the country from November 4 to 8.

She said the target is to give more than 200,000 children aged 9 months to 5 years, the measles vaccine. A further 211,000 children, aged 6 months to 5 years, will get the Vitamin A supplement, while over 174,000 aged 12 months to 5 years, will be given medication for de-worming.

Also, El-Halabi said children who have not been vaccinated are at risk of causing disease outbreaks in communities. She warned that there have been several outbreaks of children diseases and the military was taking a precautionary measure to vaccinate the children before further outbreaks.

El-Halabi urged parents and community leaders to take an initiative and make sure that all children are brought for vaccination.

The country has not experienced any major measles outbreak in recent times.
