Old Boys’ Association of Loyola College, Ibadan, worried by the falling standard of education in the country, has called on Oyo State government to return missionary schools to their original owners.

The National President of the association, Dr Benedictus Ajayi who made the call in Ibadan on Wednesday while speaking to journalists on the state of facilities at the college, stated that there is need to return school to original owners if education must reclaim its lost glories.

Dr. Ajayi lamented the state of despair and decay of Loyola College at the recent visit to the place, recalling that during their days at the college, the school was well equipped, adding that there were conducive environment, and discipline, punctuality, handwork and other virtues were learnt from their colleagues and teachers.

“The school has gone through a rather pathetic transformation since it was taken over by the government such that its enrolment drastically reduced and infrastructure greatly dilapidated,” stated Ajayi.

While commending the Lagos State Government for taking the lead in returning missionary schools to their original administrators, Dr. Ajayi emphasized that “Government has no business handling schools, and that there has been a lot of correspondences calling for them to hands off, hoping that that in no distant time, schools will be handed back to their original owners.

The Old Boys’ Association is however calling on other members of the association to key into the passion towards the transformation rally, giving every financial support to collectively salvage the pride of the school as one of the best in Ibadan.
