SOUTH West zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the weekend appointed Professor
Adewale Oladipo as the Acting National Secretary of the party. Professor Oladipo was appointed at the PDP South West Extra Ordinary Zonal Congress held in Ibadan to fill vacant position earlier occupied by the former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola..
The congress according to the Chairman PDP South West Zonal Caretaker Committee, Chief Isola Filani was attended by delegates from all the six states of Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti and Lagos with PDP state chairmen from all the states except Lagos State.in attendance.
Chief Filani declared that the appointed of the Professor of Environment and Earth Sciences from Ile-Ife, in Osun State was in obedience
with the court e order which removed Prince Oyinlola from office as the PDP National Secretary.
The South congress which had in attendance party delegates from all the six states of the zone namely, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti and Lagos was also attended by state party chairmen from all the states except Lagos State.
The South West PDP Caretaker Chairman disclosed that the extra ordinary congress was held to fulfill the party’s guidelines which stipulated that any of the party’s National executive unable to complete his or her term must be replaced with another person from the state where such an officer comes from hence the nomination of Professor Oladipo from Osun state.
Chief Filani pointed out that there was to basis for the appointment of any Acting National Secretary from other state than Osun adding that the purported unilaterally appointment of an Acting
PDP National Secretary from Lagos state made by former Deputy-National Chairman of the party and a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Bode George as a wrong step on his part.
He said “Bode George has been taking wrong steps. How he came about putting a Lagos man in the position belonging to Osun State in line with the court order was not known to us. We have no quarrel with Bode George, he is a member of BoT, but, he is not an officer of the party at the South-West zone”,
Speaking with journalists after his appointment, Professor Adewale Oladipo promised that he will not be competitor with the National Chairman of the party Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.
He stressed that his going to Abuja as the Acting National Secretary was to join hands with other leadership of the party to prepare the party well for the challenges ahead especially for the forthcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states in 2014.
He said ‘’I want to assure my people that I am not going to Abuja as the PDP Acting National Secretary to be a co-National Chairman, I am not going to compete for the position of National Chairman with the present occupier, but to be a loyal team member and support in building a more virile and respectable party. I am going to be loyal to the party and the National Chairman and be a good representative of the South West PDP,’’.
Professor Oladipo maintained that one of his priority as the Acting National Secretary would be to ensure that the South West is given its fair share as well as to ensure that the zone had at least two of its own within the PDP Governors forum come 2014
