The Governor of Ondo state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has called for the devolution of more resources to states to enable them meet their numerous challenges.

Mimiko stated this in his office during a visit by officials of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), led by Rev. Ajibola Fagboyegun.

The Governor submitted that some of the items contained in the exclusive list which includes security and power are being handled by states governments.

He noted that the state which is the closer tier of government to the people has various challenges that affect the socio-economic development of the people.

While noting that  the issue of  review of revenue allocation is long overdue, Mimiko commended the Commission for the bold step taken to revisit the allocation formula.

He said "We are in total support of devolution of resources to state because a lot of activities are going on in the state. Nigerians believe that more resources must be devolved to the state. We believe that the federal government is having much while little goes to the components."

Rev. Ajibola Fagboyegun in his address, said that the commission has commenced the process of review of the current revenue allocation formula of 52.68 percent  (special fund inclusive)  to federal government, 26.72 percent  to States and 20.60 percent  to local governments, with a view to producing a fair, equitable and acceptable formula for the country.

Fagboyegun added that the commission had  called for memoranda from all  stakeholders and also embarked on a nationwide sensitization visit to States, council areas and the Federal Capital territory
