LIBERIA- The Liberian President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has commended the swift action taken by the joint security force for the arrest of six people for allegedly smuggling marijuana from Sierra Leone into Liberia.

Ms Sirleaf who expressed satisfaction with the "swift action" of the security forces stated that she had earlier instructed them to increase their vigilance to curb the illegal drug trade adding that drug traffickers needed to face justice.

The Six people arrested includes a policeman Perry Dolo allegedly believed to be the head of the presidential motorcade, Cyrus Slewion of the National Police, a sierra leonean military officer, a business man, a taxi driver and an ex-military personnel.

The office of the president has however denied in a release that Mr. Perry Dolo headed the head of presidential motorcade as said in a police statement.

The release had stated that the presidential motorcade is a combination of various security vehicles which is headed by the Executive Protective Service.

It further stated that the vehicle marked ‘Police Escort’ which was allegedly being used by Perry to transport about 297kg (654lb) of marijuana, was an escort vehicle decommissioned and returned to the police two years ago.

According to the 2012 UN Office on Drugs and Crime report, 9% of Liberian high school students use drug.
