BURKINA FASO- The Burkina Faso Football Federation (FBF) has launched an official appeal to FIFA alleging that Algeria used an ineligible player for the second-leg tie of the 2014 FIFA World Cup play-off between both countries.

According to what CEOAFRICA sports news desk gathered, the FBF claimed that Algerian Captain and defender, Madjid Bougherra, who got the only goal that gave Algeria the needed victory to qualify for the game, should have been suspended for two yellow cards in earlier games.

FBF president, Sita Sangare, said Bougherra picked up two yellow cards during the group stage of qualifying against Mali and also went into the book during the first-leg of the play-off tie in Burkina Faso, where the Stallions triumphed 3-2 against their Algerian counterparts.

Meanwhile, Zambian referee, Janny Sikazwe, who officiated the first leg of the encounter, said what is on the FIFA site is what he had reported back after the match. The teamsheets on the FIFA website did not show a yellow card for Bougherra in the tie.

The FBF also accused Badara Diatta, who was in-charge of the second leg, for not playing the whole four minutes of injury time, depriving them the chance to score a late equalizer which could have qualified them for the world cup.

The African qualifying campaign has been overshadowed by several matches that were overturned by Fifa for nations using players who should have been suspended.
