The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC)  has urged leaders in the country to learn from the life of former South African leader, Nelson Mandela, who died last week.

The union’s president, Comrade Bobboi Kaigama and the Secretary-General Barrister Musa Lawal in a statement at the weekend mourned the death of the late freedom fighter, saying he would be remembered for his exploits.

The union advised Nigerian leaders to give the interest of the people priority over personal interests, saying this is the best way to immortalize Mandela.

The TUC noted that the colossal determination and quality leadership of the late Mandela,  led to the end of apartheid in South Africa and the birth of a free and united South Africa adding that he was a man of great honour and possessed a real zest for life.

.the union stated that above every African of his time he towered and stated further that men like him appear but once in centuries.

The union also said workers all over the world would remember Mandela’s efforts and fight for job creation adding that Mandela was a close ally of the global trade union movement both in the struggle against apartheid and in advocating decent work agenda as demanded by the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
