The Osun State government has appealed against the judgment of a High court which acquitted the traditional ruler, Alowa of Ilowa Ijesha, Oba Adebukola Alli, who was charged for allegedly raping a female member of the National youth Service Corps (NYSC) Miss Helen Okpara.

The monarch was alleged to have raped the ex-corps member at his private house in Osogbo, the state capital.

The case which suffered long adjournment was eventually dismissed by Justice Jide Falola on the ground that it was not proved.

However, the state Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Hon. Wale Afolabi in a statement issued by the information officer of the Ministry, Mr Bello Opeyemi, said the ministry has filed an appeal against the judgment at the Court of Appeal, Akure, Ondo State.

The Osun State government as a believer in the rule of law and a respecter of women’s rights is ready to pursue the case to its logical conclusion. The state government is very displeased with the judgment and has directed the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to appeal against it and explore all lawful means to see to it that justice is done.

The Ministry of Justice had on December 12 filed an appeal against the judgment of the High court which acquitted the monarch. The commissioner for Justice said the ministry has concluded all arrangements for the prosecution of the case at the Appeal Court.
