NIGERIA (Edo) –A sum of N500, 000 was given to the former Golden Eaglets coach, Mr. Willie Bazuaye, who had been down with stroke for over 10 years, by the National Sports Commission (NSC)

The cash was presented by Mr. Yemi Usikaye, South South Coordinator of NSC, on behalf of the Director-General of the commission, Mr. Gbenga Elegbeleye, saying it was in appreciating the contributions of Bazuaye during his hey days.

In his speech, Bazuaye, who led the Golden Eaglets to its maiden victory in China in 1985, recounted his ordeal with stroke, thanking the NSC for remembering the contributions he made during his active coaching days.

“With what I got from the NSC today, I can only say it will get better, and that I am happy that I could still be remembered for my little contribution to the development of Nigeria,” Bazuaye said.

Furthermore, a former Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Edo, Mr. Brown Ebewele, has showered encomium on the NSC for the kind gesture.

“This is truly a new dawn in the NSC. What they are doing is unprecedented and quite remarkable.

“This is not the first time this is happening; I recalled that a round August this year, the NSC also gave a form of assistance to Sunday Eboigbe who is also down with ailment.

“You can now see that those who were never active in sports, and are heading the commission are those remembering those who were forgotten by their own colleagues.
