The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has vowed to monitor the implementation of the intervention funds being released by the federal government to universities.

ASUU corrected the erroneous impression that the N200billion in Central Bank of Nigeria was released to ASUU saying the intervention fund will be released to universities' management and its governing council.

The Chairman University of Ibadan chapter of ASUU, Dr Segun Ajiboye stated this at the special thanksgiving held at the Chapel of the Resurrection on Sunday over the peaceful end of the strike.

According to him, the union by virtue of being at the fore-front of fighting for the injection of the funds will ensure that university management manages the fund judiciously. He warned against the notion being held by Nigerians that ASUU was given the money saying ASUU is a pressure group for the "betterment of the interest of members and uplifting of the university education and not management of funds"

A special prayer was offered for the families of late Professor Festus Iyayi and students who lost their lives during the strike. The ASUU boss asked the federal government to be responsive to the needs of the Nigerians masses and never wait to be prompted before doing the needful adding no Nation can develop beyond the level of its education.

In his short admonition, Chaplain of the Chapel of the Resurrection, The Very

Reverend T.O Olatunji asked ASUU not to seat on the fence after fighting for funding but ensure that the monies are well managed for the needs of universities. Reverend Olatunji who asked ASUU leadership to forgive those who tried to frustrate the strike or did not support the strike, added that they should be pardoned.

"There is no victor, no vanquish. Forgive those who did not support you or supported you half way. Make sure that the money released is used for that which it was released to do.

"The thanksgiving started at the university Mosque on Friday. The Church service was attended by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac Folorunso Adewole, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Professor Idowu Olayinka, , Director of Distance learning programme, Professor Bayo Okunade, while the ASUU team was led by the Chairman of ASUU Dr Segun Ajiboye and National Treasurer of ASUU Dr Ademola Aremu.
