Speaker, Oyo state house of Assembly Rt. Hon. Micheal Adeyemo as a guest on “COMMUNITY TODAY” an online TV program of CEO Africa on Monday 26th June 2017 said under his leadership, 8th house of assembly has recorded a tremendous success in their primary functions of lawmaking.
Hon Adeyemo said the Oyo State House of Assembly had passed 45 bills since they started their administration two years back and has about 15 bills already in the second reading which to him is a great achievement for the administration.
The Speaker further explained some of the bills passed which includes the law on criminal procedures, judgment on kidnapping, Community service laws, Education Trust Fund Law, Hospital registration, Agricultural development etc.
Giving account of his stewardship as the head of the 8th Assembly, the lawmaker gave an insight into how the journey has been so far since he assumed office as the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly.
The vibrant lawmaker provided answers to different questions on various aspects of the State development ranging from education, social needs, economy, security, health to personal political matters.
Hon Adeyemo, in his reaction to one of the questions asked on education gave kudos to the present administration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi for doing so well as regards giving education a facelift in the state with implementation of various laws passed by the Legislative arm of Government. He explained that unlike what was earlier applicable, education was being prioritized and a lot of restructuring was ongoing from the Legislative arm of the State Government to the Executive arm. In his words,” we have in place a government that is attentive and takes advice from the public to propose, sponsor, pass or implement bills that are beneficial to the citizens of the state”.

Oyo State Speaker further spoke on restructuring as a means of moving Nigeria forward. “If each State Government is given autonomy to manage their resources, Nigeria will be better for it; this will further drive development in all ramifications”.
Mr Adeyemo said the welfare of the people is the guiding principle of the present Oyo State House of assembly and that is why crisis is not visible. He said the legislative and Executive arms of government disagree but not openly as open confrontations to deter the activities or progress of the government. He said the Legislative arm of government requires people of high experience and exposure, inclusive of high professional background which is what is in place now.
Hon Adeyemo expressed his disapproval for the inclusion of the local government in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; he based his point on the absence of equity in the creation of local governments across the country. He said that he would prefer the Parliamentary System of Government to be practiced in order to get it right.
The Lawmaker said his future political ambition is unknown for now but as a Christian, he believes in God’s directives in whatever decision he wants to take.
Hon. Adeyemo promised the citizens of Oyo State the best that the Legislative arm of Government can offer and their unwavering support for the Executive arm in making the state truly a pacesetter in all developmental aspects.
More to come…………
