
NIGERIA (Anambra) –The trial of a-54-year-old Independent National Electoral Commission official, Chukwujekwu Okeke, who was arrested for alleged misconduct during the November 2013 governorship election in Anambra State, has been fixed for February 13, 2014.
Speaking at the resumption of the matter yesterday, the prosecution counsel, Stanley Nwodo, explained to the court that he need to respond to an application brought to him by the defendant before the sitting, asking that the court should adjourn sitting to enable him study the application.
Okeke, who was the Electoral Officer in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, was arraigned on a one-count charge of dereliction of duty which contradicts section (1) (2) (3) of the Electoral Act, 2010.
He was, however, granted bail in the sum of N3 million with one surety in like sum, the surety must be a Level 15 civil servant, resident in Abuja.
Also, the court ordered him to always report on every work day at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja.
Chief Magistrate Usman Shuaibu, therefore, adjourned the case to February 13 for continuation of trial.
