GLO-CAF Awards: Yaya Claims African Footballer of the Year Crown, as Nigeria Dominates Other Categories

The famous Ivorian and Manchester City Midfielder, Yaya Toure, has won the 2013 GLO-CAF Player of the Year Award, beating Super Eagles and Chelsea Midfielder, John Obi Mikel, and his Ivorian counterpart, Didier Drogba to the honour.

Yaya Toure claims his third straight award as the best player in the continent at a colourful entertaining show held at Eko Hotel in Victoria Island.

Touré began his playing career at Ivorian club ASEC Mimosas, where he made his debut aged 18. He was voted African Footballer of the Year for 2011 and 2012.

Other categories decided yesterday are as follows:

Best Coach of the Year: Stephen Keshi- Nigeria

Best Young Player of the Year: Kelechi Iheanachor -Nigeria

Best National Team of the Year: Super Eagles of Nigeria.

African Footballer of The Year (Based in Africa): Mohammed Abou-Treika- Egypt

African Fair Play Award: Nigeria Supporters Club.

Best Young Team of the Year: The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria.

Best African Club of the Year: Al Ahly of Egypt.

Best Referee of the Year: Haimoudi Djamel-Algeria.

CAF Platinum Award of the Year:  President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan –Nigeria.

CAF Legend of the Year Award: Bruno Metsu (France) and Mehdi Jose Faria (Brazil).

African Best XI : Vincent Enyeama (Nigeria) – Ahmed Fathi (Egypt), Mehdi Benatia (Morocco), Kevin Constant (Guinea) – Mohamed Abou-Treika (Egypt), John Obi Mikel (Nigeria), Yaya Toure (Ivory Coast), Jonathan Pitroipa (Burkina Faso) – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon), Emmanuel Emenike (Nigeria), Asamoah Gyan (Ghana).
