A middle-aged man, Yakubu Davids, popularly known as ‘Ologbo’ was on Friday hacked to death in cold blood by a gang called ‘O Strong’, of the popular ‘Oju-ina’ base in Agarawu area of Lagos Island, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria. The man was hacked to death allegedly trying to block the activities of members of the gang.

Also, several people were seriously wounded and unaccountable millions of naira in cash and property were lost during a reprisal bloody attack by the colleagues of the deceased from Obadina area on the notorious youths who were allegedly based in a masquerade compound called ‘Agbole-Oya’ in the metropolis.

It was reliably gathered that the notorious gang members had three weeks ago attended a social gathering on the Island and were threatening other people at the party with broken bottles, when an elderly man called ‘Erebe’ cautioned them from perpetrating the bad act.

Source said that the notorious boys, O Strong, who were between the ages of 13 and vowed to eliminate Erebe for standing up against them at the party. They later went to attack him at Oju-ina, but mistakenly stabbed his friend in the stomach.

According to source, the attack was condemned by people in the community, including the deceased who threatened to report them to the police for arrest and prosecution.

“This threat irked the O strong boys and they traced Ologbo from their house at Ajishomo Street to Oshodi bus stop where he lived in an apartment with his wife and children and machete him to death around 9pm on Friday. News of his death shocked the people of Ita-Alagbaa with shock and on Saturday morning, his corpse was retrieved from hospital and buried.

The source added that it was while returning from the burial ground that the deceased colleagues and others youths who heard the incident team-up for reprisal attack on strong Boys at Agarawu area and this led to bloody clash between them where several people were seriously injured and lost their personal effects like cash, phones and other valuable goods.

The arrival of the Police from Area ‘A’ command and the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja saved the situation because it was reliably gathered some elders who were in support of the notorious youths from the beginning immediately mobilised them and equip them with weapons like dane guns, cutlasses and others to counter the attack.

Among the elders that were alleged to be supporting the gang include one Iya Agoro residing in Agbole-Oya and also known as Iya Folami; Yeye (Mother of Bala),Lisarasu, Sulaimon Dagbere, Fatai Escaper and Sule Escaper.

Some residents in the area who spoke with our correspondent vowed to relocate from the vicinity to another except the police assist in fishing out the notorious ‘O strong’ boys who have been causing havoc in the area.

It would be recalled that about 10 of the notorious ‘O Strong’ boys and six of another terrorist youth gang called ‘Get Ready’ who were between the ages 12 and 18 years caused mayhem on the Island during last two Ramadan fasting periods.

They were arrested by the Police from Area ‘A’ Command and prosecuted, but later released because of the protest made by their parents that the youths were wrongly accused.

As at the time of filing this report, police vehicles were seen at the area to combat any unexpected attack while the Community Development Associations (CDAs) in the area were helping the police on way to apprehend the culprits.
