NIGERIA (Lagos)- Police has arraigned a 25-year-old unemployed man, Joseph John, before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Wednesday for allegedly defiling an 8-year-old girl.

According to the Prosecutor, Cpl. Ishaku Babaje, the accused committed the offence on January 11 around 5.00 pm at Chisco Waterside off Kusenla Road, Ikate, Elegushi, Lekki, Lagos.

Cpl. Ishaku Babaje further said that the one-count charge of sexual assault by penetration, contravened Section 259 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The section 259 prescribes life imprisonment for anyone found guilty of sexual assault by penetration.

Having pleaded not guilty to the charge, the Magistrate, Mrs. Olu Oshin, granted the accused bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
