Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, has assured Deltans that his administration will continue to respect the tradition and customs of the people and the laws of the state guiding the selection of traditional rulers.

Dr. Uduaghan gave the assurance on Sunday while presenting staff of office to His Royal Highness, Umukoro Josiah Aghaza 1, the Odiologbo of Olomoro, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, south south Nigeria.

Represented by the state Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama SAN, Uduaghan said his administration will not meddle in the selection process of any traditional ruler in the state but will religiously promote the tradition and custom of the people and the laws of the state.

While congratulating the royal father on his ascension to the throne, he urged him not to shirk his responsibilities as the chief promoter of the interest of his people but to embrace everyone in order to seek their co-operation for the rapid development of the Olomoro community.

His words: “As the custodian of the your people’s customs and traditions, it is important that you do not, in words or action, give any cause to your subjects to doubt your ability to uphold the sanctity of their customs. I appeal to you to imbibe the democratic virtues of dialogue and consultation in all your dealings with the people”.

The Governor who lauded the Olomoro people for their kind sentiment and support for the state government, assured that their request will be channeled to the appropriate agencies of government for necessary attention. Earlier, in an address, the Acting President General of Olomoro community,  Hon. Idawene Oke (JP), expressed thanks to the state Governor for his magnanimity and recognition of the 11th monarch in the history of the kingdom and also for the massive development the state is experiencing today.

While saying that the people of Olomoro remain committed and will continue to support his administration,  he appealed for among other projects; the provision of more medical equipment to Olomoro central hospital, deployment of more medical doctors and nurses to the hosspital, as well as construction/rehabilitation of the collapsed bridge along Olomoro Comprehensive High School road, adding that this will impact greatly on the development of the Kingdom.
