NIGERIA (Bayelsa)- A section of the timber and furniture market situated at Opolo axis of Yenagoa in Bayelsa State, has gutted fire.

Goods, especially foams worth millions of naira, along with some commercial tricycles and furniture was raised down by the inferno,

It was gathered from the traders in the area that the fire started at about 4.30am on Thursday shortly after a businessman identified as F-Man offloaded his truckload of foams.

One of the victims said:  “We didn’t know that the area was still hot. So when F-Man offloaded his goods, they were used to cover the burnt refuse. The foams were heaped in sections.

“After sometimes somebody discovered a smoke coming out from under a section of the foam. He called F-Man. But when F-Man lifted one of the foams, the fire exploded and spread.”

He said within seven seconds all the foams heaped around the area were burnt to ashes.

“If this thing had happened when people were sleeping, the entire houses in this area would have all gone. F-Man lost almost his goods. It is unfortunate. I even escaped death by the whiskers,” he added.

It was gathered that it took the intervention of most of the traders in the timber and furniture shops to put out the fire.
