NIGERIA (Lagos)-One of the wives of late Chief MKO Abiola, Mrs. Modupe Onitiri-Abiola, has declared her intention to contest the 2015 governorship election in Lagos State on the platform of ACCORD party.
According to a statement released in Lagos yesterday, Onitiri-Abiola, wife of the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993, presidential election, has made her intention public.
The aspirant said that she joined the party to assist in the eradication of poverty
“Since there is no Independent Candidacy in Nigerian Political System yet, I needed to join a political party.
“During my search for the party to join, I found out that what we have on ground is severe poverty.
“I saw that the people of Lagos are yet to truly receive the dividends of democracy they deserve.
“I have seen the suffering of those caught in the grasp of poverty. I have also seen the great potentials our state can achieve,” she said.
Onitiri-Abiola promised to eradicate, poverty, god-fatherism, money politics and corruption, if given the mandate next year.
She said ACCORD party was the new way that would lead the people to the promised land.
Onitire-Abiola had in 2013 declared her intention to contest the 2015 governorship seat in the state, but did not mention the platform on which she would contest.
