A middle aged man, Isah Abubakar, was sentenced to one year imprisonment by a Magistrates’ Court in Minna on Friday for stealing a car.

Abubakar was docked on a count charge of theft, an offence, contrary to Section 287 of the Penal Code.
 

Magistrate Sa’adatu Gambo, summarily tried and sentenced the convict to one year imprisonment according to Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The accused had admitted committing the offence, and pleaded for mercy.

However, Gambo, gave the convict an option to pay N30, 000 fine.

Earlier on March 3, the prosecution had told the court that one Mukaila Danladi of Gawu Babangida, in Gurara Local Government Area, reported the matter at the Gawu Police Station.

The prosecution told the court that the complainant parked his Toyota camry car at Lambata Market, only to come out of the market and discovered it had been stolen.

According to the prosecution, police detectives apprehended the accused, as the missing car was in his possession.
