The first female pharmacist Vice chancellor in Nigeria, Prof. Mrs Chinedum Peace Babalola, VC Chrisland university has commended the effort of the Federal Government through the Ministery of Health  for banning the use, sales and manufacturing of codeine in Nigeria.

Prof. Babalola made this known on Wednesday while speaking with CEOAfrica in an exclusive interview in Abeokuta.

She said ‘‘as a pharmacist professor and a stake holder in the pharmaceutical industry, I think it is a laudable effort because, whenever there is a serious problem, it requires serious solution or attack to curb it. Codeine is found in cough syrup and that is how it is being abused currently. Codeine syrup is usually to manage symptoms and not to cure. If someone is having cough, then he or she should find the cause. The fight against Drug Abuse is a collective responsiblities of all".
