The newly inaugurated chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, Sunny Ejiagwu, was early yesterday shot dead by unidentified gunmen.
Ejiagwu, popularly known as Ohaneze, was one of the 27 local government chairmen inaugurated on Monday by the new state chairman, Daniel Nwafor, after the court ordered the state APC ward, local government and state congresses.
Dasuki Galandanchi , state Commissioner of Police, said he was killed along Akokwa road. The state chairman of the APC condemned the killing, saying violence had no place in democracy, especially as the party preaches peace and tolerance.
Reacting, Governor Rochas Okorocha promised to give N20m to anyone who could give useful information on the killers. He also urged the police and other security agencies to ensure that the killers are caught without delay.
The governor spoke when leaders of Ideato-North came to inform him of the killing.
Okorocha assured them that the killers would soon be made to face the consequences. He noted that it was not a case of armed robbery or kidnapping, as the man’s head and body were shattered with bullets to ensure that he did not survive.
