Ahead of the Sallah festival of Eid el Kabir, the Kano city has been seeing new places springing up where animals are sold as more people prepare for the event in the next ten days.

Rams and cows which used to be dominant have seen the rise of camels which in the past have not been a priority.

An average ram cost between N30,000 to N 50,000 while a cow or an Ox can be bought for N120,000 to N150,00,while the camels which from last 2 years are beginning to be favorites are selling from N80,000 to N100,000. The camels which are brought from the Nigerian villages in the north and Niger republic vary in size and weight with well-fed ones being more costly.

A camel seller, Aliyu Garba who spoke to our correspondent said they are having a field day as more people are turning to the camels for their meat.

He said as more Muslims get to understand that the camel is one of the animals desired in the sacrifice of the festival and being relatively cheap they are buying it.

Another ram dealer at the Abbatoir market in Kano, Sule, said the business is booming but the next few days when salaries are expected will be more rosy and promising.

He also said some people from Abuja and other states have been calling.
