Governor Godwill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has said Nigeria holds great hope for Africa and called for unity among the peoples despite their political and religious differences.

Akpabio spoke after the ground-breaking ceremony of the permanent site of Akwa Ibom State headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Atan Offot in Uyo performed by the National PDP Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu.

Akpabio observed that any problem in Nigeria could lead to a serious spill-over effect of population explosion in the neighbouring countries.

He condemned some Nigerians for blaming upsurge of terrorism on Mr. President instead of supporting him.

He pointed out that PDP stands for transformation extra-ordinary, describing it as a Northern star without changing its name unlike other political parties that have changed their names many times.

The governor lauded the Village Head of Atan Offot and pledged to construct the road linking the village with the secretariat in dry season.

The National PDP Chairman, Alhaji Mu’azu lauded the transformation drive of Governor Akpabio, saying that he has made the party proud in the development history of the country.

Mu’azu commended Akpabio for embarking on the construction of the party’s secretariat, and called on Akwa Ibom people to pray for and support President Jonathan in his transformation drive.

The state PDP Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo speaking on the occasion said: “To further strengthen the workings of the party as well as lay the requisite foundation for sound financial health, we inaugurated the Finance Committee to raise the required funds for the running of the party and a Building Committee to undertake the building of a befitting party secretariat”.

He announced that all state officers including the state secretary, deputy chairman and state chairman ride new jeeps and funds were released for the rent renewal; furniture and branding of the 329 ward offices and 31 chapter offices in the state while 34 new buses would be commissioned for the upcoming campaigns.
