The National Working Committee (NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Nigerians to use this year’s Eid-El Fitri to embrace peace.

The party, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, urged Nigerians to apply the divine lessons learnt during the just-ended fasting period.

“In truth, the Ramadan offered inestimable lessons in love, humility and forgiveness.

"We therefore urge Nigerians, irrespective of religious persuasions to ensure that these lessons are not lost but purposefully applied to usher in a new and beautiful era where bitterness, hatred and warring shall be things of the past,” the statement said.

The party noted that the Eid-El Fitri presents a great opportunity for Nigerians to devote themselves to the values that unite and bind all citizens in love while permanently putting behind all divisive tendencies.

PDP reiterated its commitment to the unity and indivisibility of Nigeria, charging all citizens to close ranks and resist all enemies of the nation who sow seeds of discord and stoke the fires of division and violence among the people as means to achieve their selfish ambitions.

It also called on those behind the insurgency ravaging the country to have a change of heart and join in building the new era especially as it has become clear that Nigerians have resolved to live together as one people irrespective of religious, political and ethnic affiliations.

The party wished all Nigerians a happy Sallah celebration and prayed for enduring peace in the country.
