Brazil World Cup winner Ronaldo, has named Messi as one the current players he enjoys watching.
Ronaldo knows one or two things about attacking dexterity, and he is rightly regarded as one of the greatest strikers the game has ever seen thanks to his heroics on the club and international stage.
He didn't have room for his Portuguese namesake, when he was asked which current players he most enjoys watching by Spanish Publication.
He said: "Messi, of course, he is number one, it is a talent that we will take 20 or 30 years to see something similar”.
“I also like (Mohamed) Salah, (Eden) Hazard, Neymar, I love watching him play, and of course (Kylian) Mbappe,” he listed four more attacking stars.
This connotes that he’s giving “no” for his namesake, Ronaldo.
The Brazilian superstar thereby elaborated on Mbappe, being that he’s being compared to him.
"He has a lot of speed, he finishes well, he has great movements, he hits excellent with both legs, he has an incredible stride.
"We have similar things, but I never liked comparisons, especially between players of different generations, because the situations are different," he said.
Meanwhile, we're entering an era where the previous dominance of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has started to erode a little bit.
Luka Modric became the first winner of the Ballon d'Or that wasn't either one of the Argentinean or Portuguese idols for a decade earlier this year, while there are several young, exciting attacking talents who are up-and-coming around the world, with all looking to take the crown of the two greatest players of this decade.
And it seems that for one football legend, some of those attacking players have already usurped one of them.
