Lucy Nyira, a 25-year-old woman who was doused with petrol and set ablaze has died.

Nyira succumbed to injuries at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital where she was being treatment.

Doctors said she suffered 25 per cent burns to her torso, arms, neck and face.

Confirming the death, Jenipher Mathege, a nurse at the hospital, said the mother of three died around 5 am.

"Nyira passed on at a time she had been scheduled for theatre," said Mathenge.

Her husband of three years, 24-year-old Bernard Kariha, was arrested on Sunday after he surrendered himself to the police.

County Police Commander Stephen Matu said the suspect presented himself to Teachers Police Station.

Nyira had told the Saturday Standard that her husband attacked her for coming home late from a business trip in Nairobi.
