Oyo PCRC awards Alaawe of Awe, Oba Cornelius Taiwo ‘Command Patron’

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Oyo State Command on Thursday awarded His Roya Majesty, Oba Cornelius Abiola Taiwo (JP), the Alaawe of Awe town as its ‘Command Patron’.

The honorary award bestowed to Oba Cornelius at his Awe palace was to improve security sensitization towards safeguarding the lives and property of the people and bringing PCRC closer to the people of Awe and its environment in Oyo state.

Speaking at the palace, the Chairman, PCRC Oyo State Command, Rev. Peter Omofoye said “the award depicts an involvement of Awe community towards strengthening community policing and tackling insecurity matters in Oyo State. What we have done today is a big sensitization on security. As the Oba of Awe town, he will have a lot of security tips towards controlling the town and with his involvement, there is no how the security of lives and properties of the people will not be guaranteed”.

Rev. Omofoye appealed to Oba Cornelius and his Chiefs to join hands with the police in the community to ensure an effective community policing in the environment to better enhance the security activities of the police as security business is everybody’s business.

He also promised to launch a formidable PCRC with vibrant executives that will be assisting the policemen of the newly built Police Divisional Headquarters in Awe town to tackle insecurity challenges among other things.

Rev. Omofoye however assured the Alaawe of Awe town and his chiefs that a new Divisional Police Officer (DPO) will soon be redeployed to maintain law and order in the town.

In his words, His Royal Majesty, Oba Cornelius Abiola Taiwo (JP) said “We appreciate the PCRC Oyo State Command led by its Chairman, Rev. Omofoye for this great honour bestowed on me to be their Command Patron. Am happy for this”.

“I am assuring the PCRC that, by God’s grace, they shall have my full support on this task given to us to sustain a better community policing in Awe town and Oyo State in general” he said.

He also urged all the traditional rulers in the state to support the police to combat crimes and other criminality activities towards achieving a better and safer Nigeria.

In her comments, the Iyalode of Awe, Mrs. Adeola Omotosho Ayoku while commending the efforts of the PCRC in the state said “We knows the levels PCRC commitments in the state. The work you are doing towards ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state is equivalent to the police work. You both ensures peace and safety in the community. We are very happy for giving us this honour”.

She further urged for effective formation of PCRC in the town to assist the policemen of the Awe Divisional Headquarters.

In attendance at the award event were His Roya Majesty, Oba Cornelius Abiola Taiwo (JP), the Alaawe of Awe, Awe, Oyo State, the Iyalode of Awe, Mrs. Adeola Omotosho Ayoku, other palace chiefs, ASP Sheidu SS (presently in charge of the new Awe Division), ASP Segun Adeyemo, the PCRC Chairman, Rev. Peter Omofoye and other Chairmen of the PCRC branches in Oyo state.
