Buhari approves tenure extension of NSCDC boss

The tenure of Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu as the commandant-general of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been extended.

The approval for the extension was given by President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday, July 19, as contained in a statement by Muhammadu's media assistant, Ekunola Gbenga.

Muhammadu's first tenure was to end on Friday, July 17, prompting insinuations that the president may give the NSCDC boss the waiver to continue the good work. Abdullahi Muhammadu:

But on Friday, minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola, under whom the NSCDC operates, said President Buhari is impressed by Muhammadu's commitment to the corps.

 The minister said six-month extension has been approved for Muhammadu to continue as NSCDC boss effective from July 17, 2020.

“The minister graciously recommended this extension of tenure due to the track record of innovative programmes in the Corps as well as the need to consolidate some of the on-going projects,” the NSCDC boss' media official disclosed.
