From Khartoum, CEOAFRICA.com gathered that the Arab League is building 15 model villages in Darfur region as its effort to encourage refugees and internally displaced people.
According to the body’s spokesperson Salah Halima every village will include a power and a water station, a school, a medical dispensary, a mosque, a social club, a police station and a grain milling machine.
Furthermore, the Arab League will also assist Sudan with the provision of three hospitals and establish seven agricultural projects to promote economic activities in the war ravaged region, pointing that the total cost of these projects is around 30 million dollars.
Arab countries are often criticized for not contributing enough in the ongoing efforts to rebuild Darfur which has experienced conflict for 10 years, and about four million people left their villages and areas.
However, this gesture will go a long way in redeeming the image of Arab League.
