Ogun State government has said it will no longer be business as usual in the health sector of its economy.

It advised medical personnel in its services against dereliction of duties, unethical and sharp practices, warning that sanctions would be imposed on violators of rules and regulations of the sector.

In a press release signed by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Olaokun Soyinka, government reiterated its commitment to the welfare of its workers, noting that this informed the policy of the Amosun-led administration to pay salaries as and when due and create a work-friendly environment for its employees.

"The present government not only cleared the backlog of salaries inherited from the previous administration but has invested massively in rehabilitation of dilapidated infrastructures, construction of new ones, purchase of equipment and employment of hundreds of medical personnel, among others," the commissioner said.

He added that "more of these investments are to come."

According to Soyinka, "Most workers are dedicated and professional, but our checks show that there are many who persist in bad or unethical practices that damage the reputation of our health services."

The statement admonished health workers in the public hospitals to be at their duty posts at all times and treat patients with utmost care and respect to avoid untoward consequences.

"Our monitoring is being stepped up and the bad eggs will be fished out. It will no longer be business as usual," the statement warned.
