Residents of the Millennium Citi Center Estate (MCCE) Gbagada area of Lagos State have appealed to the state government to help complete embankment of the canal, which was embarked upon since last year so that it does not cover up easily.

Speaking through the association’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Sebastine Arinze, they also called on the government to further assist them with the provision of transformer to improve electricity supply within the area as well as good roads to make life comfortable for residents and visitors.

Millennium Citi Center Estate, located by Westex bus stop, Gbagada, has been in existence for years. However, in recent times, the estate has received new look just like other estates around.

The estate is surrounded by canal. Due to the serious drainage challenge, the Ministry of Environment built a bridge across one of the canals.

However, the work is not yet to be completed.

Arinze revealed that so far, through communal effort, the association embarked on road rehabilitation, drainage constructions to alleviate the problems being experienced by residents.

The work which began last year has been abandoned for a while because of lack of funds.

“So far, with our own efforts, we’ve done about 500 meters in the estate but it is a function of how we raise money. If we are able to raise more money, then we will do more. But the rains are here again and so even what we did half way before is going bad again. We had to stop work because of lack of funds. We are appealing to the Lagos State government to come to our aid and see to the completion,” he said.
