Edo Police Arrest 17 Kidnappers in a Month

The Edo State Police Command has within one month arrested 17 suspected kidnappers said to have been operating in the state for some time now.

Five of the suspects according to the police are Saturday Ebosele, Odion Akhilomen, Monday    Oamen, Odianose Isekialuona and Shaka Okonofua.

The arrested persons who were among the 68 suspected criminals paraded on Monday by the State Commissioner of police, Foluso Adebanjo were said to have been picked up in their different hide outs.

The police said during interrogation, the suspects confessed to be responsible for the kidnap of a woman on September 17, 2013 at the University town of Ekpoma in Esan West Local Government area of the state.

Also arrested were two other suspects, who attempted to kidnap a medical doctor at Uromi in Esan North East Local Government area on the 14 and 16 of July, 2014.

The police Commissioner while confirming their arrest said the two suspects sent series of text messages to the medical doctor to deposit the sum of N1 million at a designated location failing which he will be kidnapped in his clinic.

Upon receiving the message according to the police commissioner, a team of detectives were given the mandate to go after them and that through covert and overt intelligence, the two suspects were apprehended after which they confessed to the crime.

Police Commissioner Adebanjo also said that the other ten suspected kidnappers were picked up by his men in various locations in the state.
