Mussa Azzan Zungu has urged countries to discourage the obsession inclined to self-destructive foreign manufactured goods which have accounted for the alarming rate of unemployment.

Zungu, a member of Parliament, Ilala (CCM) made this observation while addressing editors during the capacity building seminar organized by Tanzania Distilleries Limited (TDL) in Dar se Salaam on Friday.

He pointed out that the media can contribute a whole lot in ensuring the growth of high quality products made in the country by adding moral support to local producers’ confidence, stressing that sustainable industrial production will guarantee revenue to the government for effective funding of various development projects.

Zungu who said that patriotism should be the guiding scepter advised that there should be close interaction between the manufacturers and the media such that the general public is well informed of good quality local products.

He highlighted the need to address the issue of excise, the need to make it reasonable to encourage consumers who may be forced to go for imported products at the detriment of the local products.

He explained that with the tax lowered slightly, more customers will buy from manufacturers and the expansion of the tax base guaranteed with steady increase in production.

He however advised for responsible reporting which is capable of highlighting country’s potential especially in agriculture to reduce the fascination with foreign products that undermines growth of the national economy.
