Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) has warned that it would henceforth prosecute anybody caught dumping refuse at wrong places in the state.

Okezie Ikpeazu, Deputy General Manager, ASEPA, condemning the indiscriminate refuse dumping in the state, noted that the ugly activity counteracts the efforts of the agency to provide a clean and healthy environment for the residents of the state.

He therefore warns people from neighbouring states, to stop bringing in refuse into Aba and its environs, stressing that the government will no longer condone their activities, as Abia is no dumping ground for domestic and industrial waste.

Ikpeazu disclosed that the agency had arrested some people, who tried to dump agricultural waste at Osisioma area of Aba, noting that the perpetrators would be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others. The vehicle conveying the waste, a Scania truck with Lagos registration number XP 267 AKD was also impounded.

“Our efforts paid off on Sunday, when we got information that some people have dumped refuse on the road and we quickly moved in and apprehended the truck conveying the refuse” he said.

He however commended Aba residents for their assistance to the agency, noting that they made it possible for the arrest of the offenders.
