Saturday 21 August 2021 : The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sealed a property of former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The sealed property is situated at Kwankwaso residence on Miller Road in Kano metropolis.

Kwankwaso is a two-term governor of Kano, who represented Kano Central Senatorial District at the Senate between 2015 and 2019.

The EFCC operatives sealed the property as result of a follow up on a petition sent to the anti-graft agency by some members of the family of Alhaji Ismaila Gwarzo, a former National Security Adviser during the late Abacha regime.

Reliable source informed that the family members of Alhaji Gwarzo had alleged that one Abdullahi Muazu Gwarzo popularly known as Baban Gandu, a former Managing Director of the defunct REMASAB in Kano, sold the property belonging to the family to Kwankwaso and refused to remit the money to the family.

“The issue regarding the sealing is a personal issue among members of Ismaila Gwarzo’s family and Kwankwaso was only involved because he was a buyer of one of the properties,” the source said.

Sources confirmed that several houses had been sealed at Gwarzo Town belonging to the former Managing Director of REMASAB and other properties at Danbare, Bompai among others.

It was also gathered that nine bank accounts belonging to Mr. Gwarzo had been frozen.

He was a member of PDP before left for APC and began nursing for political positions within the party.

A source at the anti-graft commission confirmed that they are investigating allegations contained in a petition sent to them.
