What would have been a major road disaster in Benin City, the Edo State capital, was averted by what residents of the city called divine intervention.

A green colored Sunny coupe conveying 6 passengers veered off the Airport road into the Museum ground almost killing all occupants of the vehicle

In an attempt by some policemen stationed at the Anthony Enahoro Complex to stop the vehicle, it skidded off the museum pavement and hung on top of a bill board power mast.

It was learnt that though none of the persons involved were killed; they however sustained various degree of injuries.

Three of the policemen were immediately taking to the Central hospital while those in the Sunny were taking to undisclosed hospital.

Head of Edo state traffic control Agency, Osaro Amadi told our correspondent that he was informed through a distress call he received late hours of Sunday about the accident.

Amadi and officers of the Road Safety Corp who were making frantic effort to salvage the situation said, “I got a call yesterday (Sunday) night at about 11am that an accident has occurred at the Kings Square.

“We immediately mobilised and when we got here we saw 6 people inside this small Sunny coupe with registration number AE740BKN hanging above on top of this bill board mast.

“The possible cause of this, is uncontrollable speed and the attempt by some policemen drafted to the assembly here to rescue them almost led to their death when another Camry that was on high speed ran into them from the Airport road axis.”
