THURSDAY- 26th August, 2021: The Deputy National President of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, (FOBTOB), Comrade Adebayo Aderogba, has commended the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde for ordering the evacuation of students of Oyo state origin from the University of Jos (UNIJOS), following the ongoing crisis in Plateau State, which has claimed several lives.

Aderogba, in a statement made available to CEOAFRICA, lamented that the ongoing killings, plundering and destruction of properties in Plateau State had continued for a long time, thereby making the state dangerous to live in presently.

He stressed that already several people had been sent to their early grave, many injured and displaced within the University of Jos metropolis and its environ to the extent that the Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State had to order the immediate closure of UNIJOS, while placing a dawn to dusk curfew, restricting movement within the school premises.

Aderogba further stated that: “These killings of defenseless Nigerians by mindless terrorists’ and religious fanatics have totally made Nigeria more or less war-torn, shattered and enveloped in the risks of falling into fundamentalist fighters taking over the country if absolute care is not taken.”

The Unionist called on the Federal Government to address the ugly trend, recalling that the Jos tragedy was happening when Southern Kaduna, Kastina and Zamfara had become a theatre of terrorists’ activities.

He said “On a daily basis, lives numbering in hundreds are lost to reckless killings caused by insecurity across the country. The federal needs to act fast and resolve the insecurity threatening the existence of Nigeria as a country”

Comrade Adebayonoted that the time had come for the Federal Government to do something more positive to check widespread terrorism across the land for the nation to remain one united entity.

Recall that CEOAFRICA reported that Makinde over the weekend ordered the evacuation of the students of Oyo State origin, having deployed his Special Assistant, Students Affairs, to Jos, to lead the evacuation.

Fortunately on Tuesday, the governor received 85 students of the University of Jos, who are indigenes of the State, evacuated from the troubled Plateau State.

Aderogba described Governor Makinde as an exceptional leader whom he said will never subject his people to any form of hardship.
