TUESDAY, 12th October, 2021: The president of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina’s niece, Joy Oyinlola Adesina has emerged as the overall best student of College of Medicine Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife.

CEOAFRICA gathered that Dr Joy Adesina who is the niece of the 8th president of the AFDB beat 95 other students, to graduate with the best result in OAU medicine with distinctions and prizes in almost of all the units.

Ms. Adesina bagged a total of 10 distinctions in Surgery, Community Health, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Paediatrics and Child Health, Dermatology, Mental Health, Pharmacology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, and Physiology.

She also won various prizes like the Nigeria medical association prize, for which she emerged as the student with the overall best result in the M.B.Ch.B degree examination; The Faculty Prize, for which she was the candidate with the overall best performance in Faculty of Clinical sciences; The Olaningbe Makanjuola Memorial Prize, for which she emerged the best student in Medicine and medical specialties in part 111 MBCHB degree examination; The Dr. Oluyemi O. Badero Foundation Prize, for which she was the overall best student in the bachelor of medicine and surgery (MBChB) final examination in the faculty of Clinical sciences.

She also won The Major General Olufemi Olutoye Prize, where she was the student with the overall best performance in the first professional examination; The Adeline Olu Ajayi Prize; where she emerged as the best graduating student in physiology in the second MBCHB examination; The Glaxo Allenbury prize, where she emerged as the student with the best result in the final M.B.CH.B degree examination in paediatrics; The Paediatrics association of Nigeria prize, for which she was the student with the best result in the final M.B.CH.B degree examination in paediatrics; and The Professor O. Taiwo Memorial Prize, where she emerged the student with the highest mark in clinical examination, whose total score was not less than 60% in the final MB.Ch.B examination in paediatrics.

Dr. Joy who also emerged the best in both the first and final professional MBChB degree exams will be inducted alongside 84 other students into the medical profession on Friday.

The induction and oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to hold on the 15th of October, 2021 at the Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU),Ile Ife by 9am. The reception of the event follows after the inductionat Awo Varsity Basement.
